    Paper on burst detection available

Actually, just for the chosen few (and anybody who asks via email). A paper I co-authored entitled Genetic Algorithm for Burst Detection and Activity Tracking in Event Streams is available from Springer Link, if your institution subscribes to it.
The paper presents an algorithm, based on Kleinberg's burst detection, to model event streams, and applies it to blog comment streams and micro-earthquakes. I already uploades some preliminary work to ArXiV.
