    Zapatero on the NYT

Zapatero was interviewed yesterday in the NYT. Probably via an interpreter. Speaking english is not a requisite for Spanish presidents. Excerpt:
    Q. Regarding the behavior of American troops in Iraq: Just yesterday President Bush said both to the American people and to the Arab media that those responsible for brutalizing or humiliating Iraqis in Iraq would be brought to justice. What is your reaction to this scandal, this brutalization of Iraqi troops?

    A. My reaction would be that of any democratic leader: surprise and confidence that democratic leaders will take measures. For that reason, the reaction of the Bush administration seemed to be the right one -- the statement that they would do everything needed to bring those responsible to justice.

I can't help but wonder what would he have said had he been in the opposition. Which, of course, does not imply he's not answering the right thing.
